| The
Firearms Division is run by Supervising Firearms Instructor
Sgt. Kevin Smith
and Firearms Instructor Lt. Richard Roemmele. The Division
is responsible for all firearms instruction and training,
handgun and shotgun qualifications as mandated by the
New Jeresey Division of Criminal Justice, use of force
instruction, and vehicular pursuit training in compliance
with the New Jersey Attorney General's Guidelines. |

Glock
23 |
The
department issued firearm is the Glock 23. The department
issued shotgun is the Mossberg 590 .12 gauge pump.
The
training and instruction all officers receive consists
of, but is not limited to firearms safety, fundamentals
of shooting, deployment, weapon retention, tactical
shooting, use of cover and concealment, alternative
threat areas and techniques of marksmanship.
Recently
all officers participated in a "Quad Training"
exercise at the Riverdale School. This training is
a tactical course used to repsond to the threat of
an active shooter. Officers respond in teams of four
and enter a public area in order to put down an active
shooter. This Quad Training technique has been adopted
by virtually all the police departments in this area,
which allows for a seamless substitution for officers.
In
2003 the Firearms Division formed an assault rifle
team which is deployed for emergency responses where
additional firepower is deemed necessary. The

members
of the team are qualified to carry assault rifles in their
patrol cars while on duty and are assigned to each squad.
The assault rifle team is always looking to train with
other emergency response teams (SWAT) in the area, please
