Police Officer Applicant Requirements

To apply for the position of police officer with the Riverdale Borough Police Department, the applicant must meet the following criteria:
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalency
- Be of good moral character
- Be between the ages of 18 and 35
- Must have NO criminal history
- Must possess a valid New Jersey State drivers license
- Must have acheived at least an associates degree OR have attained at least sixty credits toward a degree at a credible institution of higher learning
In order to be hired as a police officer with the Riverdale Police Department, the following steps must be taken:
- The Morris County Chief's Test must be taken. The test is given once a year. The date for the test will be listed on the academy website, which can be found by clicking here.
- We will choose applicants off this list and conduct a physical qualification at the academy. Please do NOT call the department to see if youve been chosen. We will let YOU know if youve been chosen.
- Once this is completed, an oral interview will be conducted. Upon passing this phase, the applicant must pass a medical and phsycological evaluation, along with an in-depth background investigation.
Alternate Route
The Alternate Route Program has been suspended by the NJ Police Training Commission for 2011.
Dispatcher Applicant Requirements

To apply for the position of dispatcher with the Riverdale Borough Police Department, the applicant must meet the following criteria:
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalency
- Be of good moral character
- Must have NO criminal history
- Submission of a borough employment application
- Completion of an oral interview
